Union Against Hunger Stands in Solidarity with Abahlali baseMjondolo Following the Assassination of Zweli Khabazela Mkhize.

The Union Against Hunger stands in unwavering solidarity with Abahlali baseMjondolo following the assassination of Zweli Khabazela Mkhize. We condemn in the strongest possible terms the continued and targeted violence faced by grassroots organisers who bravely defend land, dignity, and the rights of impoverished and marginalised communities.

At this painful moment, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, comrades, and the broader Abahlali baseMjondolo movement.

We honour his commitment to justice and reaffirm our shared struggle against hunger, for housing and equality. Communities that are silenced through fear and violence are communities pushed further into poverty and food insecurity. We therefore reaffirm our shared commitment to building a South Africa where grassroots leaders are protected, where dissent is not met with bullets, and where no community is punished for demanding dignity.
