About Us

The Union Against Hunger (UAH) is a dynamic South African alliance dedicated to eradicating hunger and malnutrition as urgent social justice issues. Rooted in food equity, human rights, and solidarity, UAH is transforming South Africa’s food systems by bridging the gap between advocacy and action.

Our vision is clear: to abnormalise hunger and realise the constitutional rights of every individual to sufficient food and water, and of every child to basic nutrition. We envision a South Africa where justice, dignity, and solidarity prevail, and every person has access to sufficient, nutritious, safe, and culturally appropriate food as a fundamental human right.

UAH’s mission is to hold those in power accountable, empower communities, and advocate for equitable food policies through rights-based frameworks. We are not just raising awareness – we are demanding action.

At its core, Union Against Hunger plays four key roles:

The founding members of the UAH, as part of the ongoing struggle to realise the right to food in South Africa are building a national movement to demand urgent action
